WITHERSLACK

Kendal 9 miles; Windermere 16 miles.

The small village of Witherslack lies tucked beneath Whitbarrow Scar, in a lovely area running south east from the shores of Lake Windermere, encompassing fell, woodland, river and valley bottom. The village consists of a huddle of fine, stone built traditional houses, cottages and barn conversions surrounded by unspoilt countryside, with varied flora and fauna and a nature reserve providing beautiful walking country. Nearby Lindale has a true 'Lakeland feel' with its narrow streets, traditional dwellings and quaint old pubs, while Cartmel, with its famous annual horse race meetings, and the pretty coastal resorts of Arnside and Grange-over-Sands are all worth a visit. With Lake Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead a short drive away, this attractive village makes an inspiring choice from which to enjoy the whole of a magical area.

Location of the cottage - accessed from a private drive and within easy reach of Coniston, Windemere, Grizedale Forest etc. Able to walk directly from the cottage to the fantastic views from the top of the crag. The views from the cottage over Morecombe Bay. The little touches on arrival - fresh flowers, homemade cake and a box of chocolates as well as a supply of essentials (cooking oil, toilet roll, tissues, etc.)

The owner really cares for her guests making sure all is well for them. Having stayed at 20+ cottages this was one of the cleanest and in a lovely location in woodland below Whitbarrow Scar.

Access to some good walks near at hand with a wood burning stove to come back to. The facilities in the house were excellent. The owner was more than helpful with provision of plenty of wood for the fire and directions to the nearest stores - we were welcomed with fresh flowers, home baked cake, chocolates and a tea tray ready for the weary travellers - lovely touches and greatly appreciated.
